OVERVIEW

Department Overview

In 1998, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University has established and offered the Master Degree Program in Biomedical Engineering in collaborating with Imperial College London, UK and Mahanakorn University of Technology, Thailand. In 2005, Department of Biomedical Engineering has been founded to take care undergraduate students in a newly established and offered Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biomedical Engineering as the Thailand’s first BME undergraduate program. Currently, the department has offered academic programs in all levels, Bachelor’s, Master and Ph.D. programs in Biomedical Engineering. The department has several strong collaborations in research and academics with several Medical Related Institutes in Mahidol University, such as, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Faculty of Medicine Ramadhibodi, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Medical Technology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, and Faculty of Science. The department is strongly research-oriented as along with the Mahidol University’s main policy of Research University. Therefore, all-level of Biomedical Engineering students are required to participate in our research activities. The department has also collaborated with several leading international institutes and organizations around the world to promote and benchmark our research to be among the top and leading biomedical engineering research in world.

Students

Our BME undergraduate program has been Top-Ranked in Thailand for National Engineering Admission Scores (see the minimum admission score of students for advancing into the program). Students can select dual degree track with University of Strathclyde. We are currently accepting 50 undergraduate students per year. We are currently having a total of 30 Ph.D. students and 39 Master Degree students in the department. Our students in all programs including Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Ph.D. have a number of opportunities to join international exchanging programs with our collaborating institutes all over the world for a period of 3 months to one year. Our current collaborating institutes are, such as, Johns Hopkins University, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Columbia University, USA, Osaka University, Kyushu University, Japan, and Soul National University, South Korea, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. We are also accepting in-bound exchanging students as well. We have had visiting students from several countries, such as, Germany, Japan, France, USA, Mexico and Singapore.
