The Student Outcomes (SOs) describe the attributes, skills, and abilities that students should have upon graduating from the Program. The Civil Engineering Program uses ABET student outcomes to prepare graduates of the program. Every program course syllabus includes the outcomes relevant to that course, and faculty are expected to evaluate those outcomes for the courses they have taught, at the end of the relevant academic. In addition, every year the department conducts surveys of seniors, alumni, and employers, in which they are asked to rate each outcome. The senior Graduate Exit Survey also addresses other criteria about their experience in the department.
SO1: An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science and mathematics.
SO2: An ability to apply engineering design process, to produce solution that meet specified needs with consideration for public health and safety, and global, cultural, social, environmental, economic, and other factors as appropriate to the discipline.
SO3: An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
SO4: An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgment, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global economic, environmental, and social contexts.
SO5: An ability to function effectively as a member or leader of a multi-disciplinary team that establishes goals, plans tasks, meet deadlines, and creates a collaborative and inclusive environment.
SO6: An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
SO7: An ability to recognize the ongoing need to acquire new knowledge, to choose appropriate learning strategies, and to apply this knowledge for advancement of career paths, and to develop skills in life-long learning.
