Master of Engineering Program in Civil Engineering

About the Program

A growing population, aging infrastructure, a changing climate, and pollution challenges to our city’s sustainability and quality of life. Since more than half of the world’s population living in cities today, this highlights the need to look holistically at the nation's infrastructure throughout its life, from the planning stages through design, construction, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation.

This program is a 2-year interdisciplinary program that aims to prepare new generations of civil engineers to gain broad range of domain knowledge including urban and infrastructure planning, geotechnical and structural systems, construction management, transportation systems analysis, environmental and sustainability-related policies.

Program Structure

The program consists of 36 credits of coursework and thesis. The required courses takes 15 credits. The elective courses, chosen to suit student's interest and research topic, must be at least 9 credits. There is an additional 12 credits of thesis.

*Please note that some courses may not be offered every year and some courses may require prerequisite course(s).

Study Plan

The normal path of study takes 4 semesters (2 years). The first semester provides foundation courses to broaden the professional horizon. The second semester offers a variety of elective courses. In the third semester, besides additional elective courses, research proposal in relation to individual’s preference must be prepared with an approval of your thesis advisor(s). During the fourth semester, students should complete their thesis and complete oral defense exam.
