Welcome to Environmental and Water Resources Engineering

Message from Program Director

Welcome to the International Masters Program in Environmental Water Resources Engineering at Mahidol University. The main emphasis of our program is to achieve the most appropriate model of practice-oriented education to fulfil several gaps between university teaching and industrial practices. We are sincerely aiming to play a vital role in educating young people who can be useful to society, and serve the industry and governments in the Environmental and Water Resources Engineering fields.

If you are interested in learning more about our program, please find more information from our website or visit us at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at Mahidol University. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, comments, or suggestions. We appreciate your interest.

Philosophy

Environmental and Water Resources areas are two engineering major which have different knowledge content. However, it is very often found that these two majors will be combined to reach the target in real work. Therefore, the program emphasizes on producing graduates who have integrated skill and knowledge in both Environmental and Water Resources Engineering. Graduates shall be well equipped with competency and skill in analysis, design, evaluation, and equipment use in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering fields. Graduate would also follow ethics in applying the knowledge for the best benefit of society and country.

Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Objectives of the program are:

  • To produce the graduates with virtue, ethics, and professional code of conduct
  • To produce the proficient graduates who have the integrated knowledge in the Environmental and Water Resources Engineering fields coupled with advanced studies and research skills including techniques to obtain relevant knowledge and to present ideas for designing, developing and solving the environmental and water resources problems under continuous learning process.
  • To produce the graduates who have capability to analyze, estimate, apply and integrate multidisciplinary knowledge in the Environmental and Water Resources Engineering fields and can design or choose any engineering processes systematically and efficiently under consideration of safety and potential impacts on the society and environment.
  • To produce the graduates who have sense of responsibility and good human relation skills to be able to work, to cooperate and to assist colleagues as a good leader and a follower in order to achieve goals.
  • To produce the graduates who can apply statistical and mathematical techniques and information technology as well as to have communication and presentation skills in problem–solving and disseminating knowledge related to Environmental and Water Resources Engineering.

Expected learning outcomes of the program are:

  • Explain basic principles, collect and analyze data on environmental and water resources engineering systematically (specific learning outcome).
  • Apply and integrate appropriate knowledge and technologies, develop new knowledge according to research methodology and work with other fields to solve real problems in environmental and water resources engineering (specific learning outcome).
  • Demonstrate the leadership and develop oneself to be able to work internationally or study at a higher level both in the country and in abroad (specific learning outcome).
  • Work as a team, communicate, present, express opinions and use information technology appropriately (generic learning outcome).
  • Express of moral, ethical, and also academic and professional ethics (generic learning outcome).

Vision

Joining hands with the leading institutes of environmental and water resources engineering education and research in global arena.

Mission

  • To produce the quality graduates in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering field for professional practice, advanced studies and research, coupled with the leadership ability to serve the local community as well as the nation in solving environmental pollution problems.
  • To produce the graduates with expertise and competency to assist in planning, design and implementing the infrastructure necessary to improve and maintain good environmental quality.
  • To advance the state-of–the-art and apply the new knowledge in understanding and solving the problems in infrastructure and environmental and water resources management, and to work with government and industry with focus on economic development and hazard mitigation as an integral parts of this interaction.

Philosophy

Rapidly expanding technology demands that an engineer have increased breadth and depth of knowledge.  The Doctor of Philosophy program in Environmental & Water Resources Engineering at Mahidol University strives to give its students that knowledge as it educates the next generation of engineering leaders.  The program offers students the chance to do original research.  Such high-level research may contribute to a new view of an aspect of environmental and water resources engineering, or a solution to an existing problem.  It also provides students with the opportunity to obtain the credentials in the environmental and water resources engineering profession needed to practice engineering at the highest level.  The program is dedicated to extending engineering knowledge across the breadth of the discipline and beyond through creative, innovative teaching and research ranging from the fundamentals to the in-depth applied studies.

Objectives and Learning Outcomes

By the end of the study, the graduates will have qualifications according to Thai Qualifications Framework for Higher Education as shown below.

  • To have the virtue, ethics, and follow the professional code of conduct.
  • To be the proficient and competent professionals who have the advanced integrated knowledge in the Environmental and Water Resources Engineering field coupled with high-level research skills to assist in solving the environmental and water resources problems.
  • To be confident experts who can advise and transfer knowledge and technologies; as well as exhibit abilities of independent and life-long learning and transferring both basic and advanced knowledge in the Environmental and Water Resources Engineering field to the public and academia
  • To have the sense of responsibility and good human relation skills to be able to work with other fields for solving real world problems in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering field and can work on a national level or in an international environment.
  • To be able to apply statistical and mathematical techniques and information technology as well as to have communication and presentation skills in problem-solving and disseminating knowledge related to Environmental and Water Resources Engineering.
