Emerging Contaminants and Environmental Innovation Research laboratory is concerned with:

  • Emerging Contaminants Analysis, Monitoring and Treatment;
  • Water innovative treatment technology;
  • Membrane and Nanotechnology;
  • Lake and River Water Quality System;
  • Carbon Credits, CDM, MRV, Alternative Energy;
  • Cleaner Production / Green Productivity

The aims of ECIN lab include:

  1. In-depth understanding in fate and behaviours of emerging contaminants in environment as well as their risk assessment
  2. Development of innovative water and wastewater treatment technology to enhance water quality and minimize energy consumption.

Research is ongoing in this lab:
Track1: Emerging Contaminants:

  • Fate and Risk Assessment of PFOS and PFOA and Other Perfluoroalkyl Substances (PFASs) in Water Treatment Plants
  • Occurrence and Control of Perfluoroalkyl Substances (PFASs) in Groundwater
  • The Silent Danger of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC): Impact and Measure of Hazard Substances Residuals in Agricultural Commodity and Food Logistics; Monitoring and Tracing System of Veterinary Drug Residuals and Food Additives in Aquaculture Commodity
  • Occurrence and Fate of Antibiotics at Major Wastewater Treatment Plants in Thailand
  • Contamination of Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) in Textile
  • Contamination of Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) in Food Packaging
  • Presence of PFOS and PFOA and their Relationship to Pollutants in Surface Water: A Case Study of Downstream Chao Phraya River
  • Cooperative Research with Kyoto University for Establishing PFOS and PFOA Measurement Technique for Industrial Wastewater

Track 2: Innovation for Environment

  • Automatic Quality Greywater Diverter for Reuse: 2-in-1 System Controlled by User and Smart Sensor
  • Study of Hybrid Filtration and Photocatalytic Membrane for Removal of PFOS and PFOA in Groundwater
  • Micro hydropower from falling wastewater and rain water in the Pipe of High – Rise Building
  • Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) Removal by Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)

Track 3: Environmental Tools and Management

  • Study on establishing MRV for Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) in wastewater sector in Thailand
  • MRV (Measuring, Reporting and Verification) methodology for co-benefit type of wastewater treatment plants in developing countries
  • Study on management framework of decentralized domestic wastewater treatment system in Thailand
  • Sanitation Classification and Alternatives Evaluation for Asian Cities, (SaniCon-Asia)
