On July 9, 2025: the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, Associate Professor Dr. Thanapat Wanichanon, and the Faculty Committee, congratulated a group of first-year students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering and awarded them with certificates of recognition. The students had won First Prize in the National Medical Innovation Idea Competition organized by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). This is a proud achievement reflecting the creativity and potential of Mahidol’s young innovators.
The award-winning project, titled “Drunk Check Patch : Patch For Measuring Acetaldehyde Levels Through The Skin” is a novel biomedical innovation that measures alcohol intoxication levels through the detection of acetaldehyde on the skin. This user-friendly and portable solution eliminates the need for traditional breath-based testing and aims to enhance safety by preventing alcohol-related accidents. The students were: Nanticha Supmool, Supakrit Prungsamrankij, Kritsakorn Boonwong, and Photcharakan Fonganantarat. The project was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Chamras Promptmas and Associate Professor Dr. Benchaporn Lertanantawong, who provided dedicated guidance throughout the development process.
This success highlights the department's commitment to hands-on learning, encouraging students to create real-world solutions for healthcare challenges. It also demonstrates the emphasis Mahidol Engineering places on early innovation and research experience. This empowers students to become future leaders in medical technology and in sustainable healthcare development.
