On September 2, 2025, the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, hosted a special seminar under the Thai Biomedical Engineering Seminar Series 2025. The event was honored by the presence of Associate Professor Dr. Thanapat Wanichanon, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Assistant Professor Dr. Phornphop Naiyanetr, Director of the Cardiovascular Dynamics and Artificial Organs Laboratory, who welcomed the distinguished speaker.
The seminar featured Prof. Shaun Gregory, a world-leading expert in cardiovascular engineering from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. Prof. Gregory, who currently serves as Director of the QUT Centre for Biomedical Technologies, Co-Director of the Artificial Heart Frontiers Program, and President of the International Society for Mechanical Circulatory Support, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Engineering the Next Generation of Artificial Hearts.”
Prof. Gregory shared groundbreaking insights into the future of artificial heart technology, highlighting recent advancements and challenges in developing next-generation devices to support patients with severe heart failure. He also introduced the Heart Hackathon, an innovative platform he founded to inspire students to design and develop creative solutions in cardiac technology.
The event drew significant interest from faculty members, students, and biomedical engineering researchers. It serves as a vital platform for knowledge exchange and global collaboration, inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists to develop technologies that could transform the future of cardiovascular care and improve the quality of life for patients worldwide. The seminar took place at Room 6373, Building 3, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University.
