The Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, led by Associate Professor Dr. Thanapat Wanichanon, Dean of the Faculty, with Associate Professor Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn, Founder of the Center for Biomedical and Robotics Technology (BART LAB), joined a collaborative event with the Tottori Industrial Promotion Organization (TIPO) in Tottori, Japan, on August 27–28, 2025. The event marked a new milestone in strengthening the partnership between Mahidol University and TIPO, which began in 2015, advancing toward deeper and more sustainable collaboration.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2015, Mahidol University and TIPO have worked closely in various areas, including human resource development, research initiatives, and the promotion of the medical device industry. The latest collaboration focuses on establishing the Mahidol–Tottori Innovation Satellite (MITI Satellite) at TIPO’s office. This innovation hub will serve as a temporary working base for Mahidol personnel to conduct research, develop new technologies, and create innovations with local partners in Tottori.
During the visit, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering engaged in site visits to key industrial organizations, and held discussions with Japanese government and private sector representatives. The Dean also participated in workshops aimed at knowledge exchange and exploring new opportunities for academic and research collaboration. These initiatives are expected to benefit research activities at Mahidol University as well as enriching teaching and learning for students.
The highlight of the trip was the signing ceremony for the annex agreement on the use of the MITI Satellite office space. It was co-signed by Associate Professor Dr. Thanapat Wanichanon and TIPO executives. This represents a significant step in Thailand–Japan cooperation, driving research and development in robotics and medical device technology to improve the quality of life and advance the medical industry in both countries.
