On 16 December 2025, the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, received the Outstanding Thesis Award Promoting Mahidol University’s SDGs Policies at the Mahidol Sustainable Development Fair 2025. This was held under the theme “SDGs for Real World Impact: from Campus to Community.” The award ceremony took place in the Foyer of the Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya Campus. It recognized research with the strong potential to advance Sustainable Development Goals and deliver practical benefits to society and industry.
One of the award-winning projects was research titled “Development of Nickel-Based Nanostructured Catalyst for Catalytic Hydrogenation and Rearrangement of Furfural into Valuable Chemical Products”. This was carried out by Miss Aurucha Kittisabhorn, a student in the Master of Engineering Program in Chemical Engineering (International Program), at the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University.
The research was supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Atthapon Srifa, who guided the research toward development of nanostructured catalysts designed to enhance the value of chemicals derived from biomass feedstocks. This innovation aligns with the principles of the circular economy and sustainable resource use.
This achievement highlights the strong potential of Mahidol Engineering students and faculty members in generating advanced knowledge that directly supports the sustainable development agenda of Mahidol University. It can also contribute to tangible impacts on society and industry in the future.
