Prof. C. Visvanathan of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, was invited to participate in the 6th Sea of Solutions Forum, jointly organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and COBSEA. The forum was held from 15–17 December 2025 with the theme “Partnerships and Solutions for Plastic Pollution.” It brought together more than 150 regional representatives to exchange policy ideas, collaborative approaches, and practical measures to reduce marine plastic pollution in a sustainable manner, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The forum served as a high-level platform to enable stakeholders from various sectors to shape regional directions for addressing marine plastic pollution. Discussions focused on policy development, international cooperation, and the application of scientific knowledge, technology, and innovation to deliver environmental solutions for the region.
Prof. C. Visvanathan was invited as a speaker and panelist in the technical session: “Technical Solutions and Innovation Pathways for Marine Plastics and Waste Management in ASEAN.” His presentation, “From Problem to Possibility: How Private Sector Innovations Are Transforming Plastic Waste Prevention and Management,” highlighted the important role of innovative technologies, business models, and private sector initiatives in managing plastic waste.
The participation of the Faculty of Engineering in this international forum reflects the role of Thai higher education institutions: key contributors to addressing regional environmental challenges. By integrating academic expertise and research, while collaborating with industry partners, the Faculty demonstrates its support for the development of scalable and evidence-based solutions for marine plastic waste management. It continues to contribute to the achievement of SDGs and the long-term sustainability of marine resources.
