On 18 December 2025, the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, led by the Department of Chemical Engineering welcomed a panel of distinguished experts from government agencies and academic institutions. They participated in activities focused on the practical implementation of innovative ideas for energy management in higher education institutions. The event was the “Young Change World Change: Empowering the Next Generation to Change the World” project. It took place in Room R-232 on Floor2, Building 1, of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University. The aim was to encourage youth and university students to develop sustainable energy concepts and translate them into real-world applications within educational institutions.
The event featured a presentation by third-year undergraduate students from the Department of Chemical Engineering Under the guidance of Dr. Suwin Apichartpattanasiri and Associate Professor Dr. Somboon Chaemchuen. Members of Team CHE_MU - Mr. Nathan Jangjit, Ms. Chutima Chinwongchan, Mr. Jirapat Wattasiri, Mr. Punyapat Yomphayom and Mr. Pakapol Udompanichwong - presented the outcomes of their innovation, Smart TEG-PCM. This integrates thermoelectric technology with phase change materials (PCM) to capture heat and convert it into electricity with enhanced stability. They shared their approach to applying innovative energy management concepts in practice, along with evaluation processes and strategies for promoting stakeholder engagement within the institution.
The project was evaluated by a five-member panel of judges: Dr. Pongpan Vorasayan, Director of Bureau of Energy Regulation and Conservation, the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency; Mr. Sitthichai Sereesongsaeng, former Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Director General of the Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (Public Organization); Dr. Kobsak Sriprapha, Senior Researcher at The National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA); Dr. Sathit Niamsuwan, Manager of the Director of Carbon Credit Certification Office, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization); and Dr. Jattakrita Rattanapier, Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University.
The panel engaged in discussions with Team CHE_MU and conducted visits to areas where the innovation had been implemented. These activities assessed the viability, performance, and scalability of the energy management concept within the higher education context. A project evaluation meeting concluded the program.
This activity reflects strong collaboration between the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, government agencies, and academic partners in advancing energy innovation, while empowering young innovators to play an active role in driving sustainable development and shaping a more sustainable future.
