From 3 - 6 March 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Thanapat Wanichanon, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, took part in an academic study visit and collaboration discussions on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AI in Healthcare) in the Republic of China (Taiwan). The Dean was accompanied by Assistant Professor Dr. Narit Hnoohom, Lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering and Assistant to the President for Information Technology and Digital Transformation; and Professor Dr. Paisarn Muneesawang, Lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering.
The visit was to explore the use of AI technology in healthcare and medical systems, to exchange knowledge, as well as to discuss potential academic and research collaboration with leading Taiwanese institutions, research organizations, and technology partners. This initiative sought to strengthen international cooperation. It also aimed to advance medical innovation and knowledge development.
The visit began with a meeting and research exchange at Academia Sinica, Taiwan’s premier national research institution. Discussions focused on advanced technology research and developments in health sciences. The delegation also visited Foxconn, one of the world’s leading technology companies, to learn about the development of smart technologies and digital systems that can be applied to future healthcare services.
The Mahidol Engineering delegation also met with representatives from Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare to exchange views on public health policies and healthcare systems that integrate artificial intelligence technology. The delegation later visited National Taiwan University (NTU), one of the country’s leading universities, to explore opportunities for future academic and research collaboration, particularly in fields related to AI and medical technology.
Another key highlight of the visit was a tour of the Intelligent Healthcare Center of National Taiwan University Hospital, a leading center for research and development in smart healthcare innovation. The delegation learned about the implementation of AI in disease diagnosis, clinical decision support, and the management of large-scale health data (Big Data). This collaboration is expected to enhance the research and innovation capabilities of Mahidol University, strengthen international partnerships in AI in Healthcare, and contribute to the development of more efficient and sustainable healthcare systems in the future.
