On 15 November 2016, International Masters Program in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, Department Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University co-organized study tours with Kyoto University. The tours are separated into two groups focusing on eco-tourism, sustainable flood management and sustainable engineering. The first group with more than 70 professors, researchers, students from various universities in Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, China, Philippines, India, Singapore, Myanmar, France, Italy, and the USA visited Klongkhone Mangrove Conservation Center to learn the mangrove ecology system, to see eco-life style of locals along the canal in the morning and went to Khlong Lat Pho water gate to learn one of the Royal Development Projects aiming at sustainable flood management in the afternoon. The second group on sustainable engineering towards eco-industry consisted of representatives from Mahidol University, Kyoto University and Japanese companies including Kobelco Eco-Solutions Co.,Ltd., Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Maezawa Industries, Inc., JFE Engineering Corporation, Nippon Steel & Sumikin Engineering Co., Ltd. and Takuma Co., Ltd. The latter group visited Nong Khaem Waste Water Treatment Plant with anaerobically digested sludge system in Bangkok which is operated by Utility Business Alliance Co. Ltd. and Industrial Waste Treatment Center (Hazardous and non-hazardous waste landfills) in Saraburi which is owned and operated by Better World Green Public Company Limited.
