On 30 April 2026. Professor C. Visvanathan from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, with a team of students and researchers, participated in a training workshop held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The workshop was part of the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanization Strategy (ASUS) Phase II project. It was organized with support from the Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction, Cambodia, to accelerate sustainable urban development across the ASEAN region.
Professor C. Visvanathan served as an External Expert from UN-Habitat and led the technical discussion on “Strengthening Inclusive Municipal Solid Waste Management Systems in Kep and Sihanoukville Cities.” The session focused on promoting sustainable and inclusive waste management approaches tailored to rapidly growing coastal cities.
During the workshop, the Mahidol University research team presented findings from their City Diagnostic Assessment, which were discussed extensively with Deputy Governors of Kep and Sihanoukville, and with senior city officials. Constructive feedback and detailed comments from the participants contributed to refining the reports, leading to the formal endorsement of the City Technical Notes prepared by the Mahidol team.
Following the workshop, Professor C. Visvanathan was invited by the Deputy Governor of Sihanoukville to conduct a field visit on 2 May 2026 to support the finalization of recommendations and provide expert input for the City Technical Report, marking an important step toward advancing sustainable environmental management at the local level.
