The Center of Logistics and Rail Engineering (CLARE) of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, took a group of graduate students to the Federal Republic of Germany for a tour of railway and public transportation systems from 20–26 September 2026. The group was headed by Associate Professor Dr. Waressara Weerawat, Program Director of Rail System Engineering who travelled with other faculty members from the Railway Engineering Program and students. The purpose of the visit was to improve practical learning and broaden the perspectives of the students on international transportation technology and innovation.

As part of the program, the delegation visited Berlin Hauptbahnhof, one of Europe’s largest and most advanced railway stations, to study modern railway operations and urban tram systems. The group also conducted academic visits to the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau and Technical University Berlin (TU Berlin), where they exchanged knowledge and insights on railway engineering, transportation systems, and emerging mobility technologies with academic experts and researchers.

The faculty members and students will attend InnoTrans 2026, the world’s leading international trade fair for transport technology, which will be held at the Messe Berlin Exhibition Centre. The event is expected to provided valuable opportunities for the group to explore the latest innovations in railway and transportation systems and engage with industry leaders and researchers from around the world.

During the visit, the delegation plans to meet with Professor Dr.-Ing. Christian Schindler of the Institutes of Rail Vehicles and Transport Systems (IFS), RWTH Aachen University, when they will exchange ideas on advances in rail technology and future transportation solutions. Later, the group will travel to Hamburg aboard Germany’s renowned ICE high-speed train. They will have several opportunities to study the country’s rail network and transportation infrastructure.

In Hamburg, the delegation will take part in The 18th International Conference of Logistics (HICL 2026), hosted by Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in cooperation with the Northern Institute of Technology Management (NIT). The program also includes a university visit and exploration of Hamburg’s integrated public transportation system: metro services, light rail, buses, and ferries. This international study tour provides students with valuable global exposure, practical knowledge, and professional insights, helping prepare the next generation of railway and logistics professionals to contribute effectively to the future of transportation development.
